Message:	We found St. Barts to be absolutely delightful, charming .. in some ways...MUCH nicer than St. Martin. Incidentally, we have our own airplane, so we did not take the ferry - should you fly over, you will find the runway at St. Barts just a bit short...lots of skid marks towards the end...when people like me panic and REALLY slam on the brakes..! Anyway, most of St. Barts was topless, BUT the local gerndarmes gently but firmly telling my wife to put some bottoms on, when, after a few glasses of champagne, she got up from our "by the beach" dinner table at a lovely little restaurant, and went down on the flood-lit beach just below, for an impromptu dance. There are some more isolated beaches on the other side of the island (Governor's for one) where people only wear smiles when on the beach, but again, BOTTOMS are required on the more public beaches on St. Barts. Frankly, we were not all that pleased with St. Martin last time we were there (couple of years ago). Crime has been getting worse, so bad, that our driver told us we were either ready to go back to our hotel (at that time we were staying at La Sammana, a dop dollar hotel on the other side of the island from Orient Bay) or he would not risk driving the island roads at night. Excess breeding has caused severe over-population on St. Martin, with all that entails in terms of sociological break-down. WITHIN the compound of Orient Bay, and the "tourist traps", except for the usual pick-pockets and con men, you should be safe.
