Subject:  Vacation Report
Message:  We jsut returned form our annual vacation to SXM. There were two couples in our group.
(I will now apologize for any spelling errors.)

We arrived on 4-27 and returned to the US on 5-4. I have been an avid reader of the forum and find interesting and informative. I will relay to you our experiences and hopefully you can get some value from this report.

We had rented a car from Tropical Car Rental. www.tropical-tropicana.com   We got this reference from a lady we spoke to lst year on our trip after we had a HORRIBLE experience with Hertz. Mickey at Tropical was great. He met us at the sirport with the car, we drove to his office in Simpson Bay for the paperwork and he met us at the airport on our return. The total retental for 7 days was 140 US plus 12 tax. We used $20 gas. A real worhtwhile value to have a car. We used it often.

We stopped at Ram's Food World as we entered Phillipsburg. A great grocery store with good prices. The best place we have seen for liquor and food on the island. (you need to tip the carryout guys as that is how they get paid.)

I hate to publicize this place to stay because it is like "our own private villa" place. We have stayed at Green Cay Villas numerous times and will stay no where else. If you pick your place on price alone, you will probably stay elsewhere. If you are a VALUE shopper and want to ahve the best vacation ever, you will stay at Green Cay.

Yanick (the general manager) and his staff are great. Bridgette and Sandrina went out of their way to make our vacation enjoyable. What great people. You can book your villa direct on the Internet at www.greencayvillas.com

We had a two bedroom villa with a private pool. We took several inflatable air mattresses and really enjoyed them in the pool. (We left them for Yanick and Sandrina's kids when we left.)

Each morning we had breakfast service with coffee made for us, fresh pastries, jusice etc. Each unit has a complete kitchen with ice makers in the freezer (we needed a lot of ice.)

The unit had a CD player, DVD TV with CNN international and several movie channels. A large salon, three bathrooms and plenty of conveniences just like you are familiar with at home.

Based on posts we have read here, we went to Bay Watch for breakfast and lunch. Both were great. Andy and Cheryl are super. They do grat food and they run a fun place. My wife had the rib and fries for lunch ($10.50) and they were great. Some of the best ribs ever. The scallops, fish and chips were good also. We were going there for lunch our last day, and they were closed (Monday). Bummer. Exchange was $1=1 euro

We went to Pedros instead and were greatly disappointed. The ribs were below average, the hamburger was horrible and the service was worse.

We ate several times at Tap Five in Orient Viaalge. Some of the best hambergers and pizza we have ever had. We ate at the Pub in GrandCase and it was good. Ate at Poulon New Orleans (on the road to Phillipsbur about a mile from Orient) and the owners two sons Christian (13) and Joshua (15) were the waiters. They were a great show and we had a good time with them. The food was good. Teh escargot was very good. This restuarant is a private house and you eat on the porch. The boys meet you in the parking lot and open your car doors for the ladies ( a nice touch.)

We also did Hot Tomatoes in Simpson Bay. Good food and grat setting. WEnt to Sunset Beach Bar and was somewhat disappointed.

We also went to Bikini Beach for a beer while we were waiting for David to return to the DVD rental place. They charged us $3.50 per beer when we paid $2 at most other places. I will not drink there anymore because of their price gouging.

There have been some questions about Internet access. Green Cay had high speed access available for $5 for 30 minutes. The DVD place also had three computers available at about the same price.

We walked the beach nude one morning but actuall spent most of the time around our private pool. We could do the clothing optional thing there, have our own music on the CD player, have restrooms close and the ice machine and beverages very close.

Green Cay also has a nice gym to work out and Bridgette lined up a massuese to come to our villa to give us all a massage. The total cost for 4 was $160. A very reelaxing morning.

I've gone on long enough. You can tell that we really enjoyed our trip. The Green Cay atmosphere sets the tone for the whole trip.

Thanks ot all the people that made our trip so enjoyable.
